Nias heritage museum


Since 1972 one of his Catholic missionary named Father Johannes M. Hammerle, OFMCap. already started collecting cultural objects, art and history of the people of Nias. Over time more and more number of collections, and he meticulously records the name and the usefulness of each. Of the many collections that are owned, Pastor Johannes propose to the Council of the Order of the Capuchin Province of his order to establish a museum Sibolga Nias.


Almost every day Nias Heritage Museum is never empty of visitors. The crowd was not limited to age and occupation. As an institution that holds objects of cultural and historical heritage of the ancestors of Nias, the museum can be categorized as an attractive tourist destination, especially for foreign tourists who want to know more about Nias.
Before entering the museum, located in the center of Gunungsitoli, visitors must pay entrance fee at the rate of Rp 2,500 to Rp 1,000 adults and for children. This rate includes parking vehicles in the museum.

Built by the Nias Heritage Foundation in 1995, the museum stands on two hectares of land is to save over 6,000 historical objects Nias tribe, ranging from jewelery, household items, traditional musical instruments, and statues. There are also replicas of traditional houses and crafts typical of a ball nafo Nias (slap betel) with various motifs. Here are kept the ball nafo giant size, 3 meter x 3 meter recorded in the World-Indonesia Record Museum (MURI) as the biggest slap in Indonesia betel.
To know the history, meaning, and function of every object on display, visitors can read the writing which is located on the side of the object, available in two languages​​, namely Indonesia and English.
